Adulthood: Falling out of love with YA books

It was a truly heartbreaking moment when I realized that I had officially grown too old to truly enjoy Young Adult fiction.

I only notice that the exact moment was sitting and reflecting on my bed after reading. I had an obscenely large pile of “plan to read books”, the problem is I’ve been amassing these books since I was fourteen and I am now 23. I’m probably defined by a lot of people still as a “young adult” but I’m definitely on the higher end of the spectrum.

I tried to read a few books like the I Am Number 4 series and some of Marie Lu’s books but they just don’t resonate with me the same as some of the other books that I have read before have.

The breaking point was finishing the 5th Wave trilogy, having stopped enjoying it after the halfway point of the first book.

The first thing some readers might think is “why did you finish a whole series if you didn’t like the first book?” To that I say, I don’t know. I guess it was one of the last bits of bullish teenage attitude in me to see if I can be brought/dragged back into the genre.

But alas all seems to be lost for now. No offense to any of the books above mentioned by the way they were just unfortunately the ones at the top of…
